Here is how it works.
A GigE Fiber lateral from the nearest Central Office (CO) connects to your office. There's no need to purchase a full 1,000 megabits/second (GigE) of bandwidth, when you can buy as little as 3 megabits/second. That's the equivalent of two T1s throughput. However, this throughput is much faster than copper, and is delivered to you on a FastE 100 megabit/second handoff. Once packets reach the router, they travel along the streets at a Gigabit per second to the CO. There they reach Fiber Internet Center in 2 or 3 thousandths of a second. An old copper T1 can't do that. With that kind of speed it's easy to see that 3 megabits/second on fiber gets you much more than copper services can deliver.In addition, at NO extra cost we will open the pipe throughput to 5 megabits/second! We leave it open for you to burst, while you run your average utilization at 3 meg/second. Then we open the download side to make all your OS updates , email attachments and other downloads fly. This helps prevent stepping on your VOIP or video conferencing.
